This tantalizing book of photographs, depicting psychotherapists in their offices, emerged from the photographer-author’s awareness of a paradox: he spent long hours interacting with many clients, yet he felt as if he worked in isolation. He composed this unique volume in order to answer this question for himself: what do we, as psychotherapists and analysts, have in common beyond the treatment of clients? Curiosity, combined with the passion for photography, motivated Dr. Zimmermann to produce this enlightening, artistic volume.

As they pose in their respective offices, the “shrinks” provide a glimpse into their own psyches. The sampling includes psychotherapists from well to lesser known and captures them at different stages of their career.

The reader is invited into the sacred space, privy to the diversity of the minds that inhabit these rooms. Each psychotherapist aims to provide a comfortable and safe environment that supports the complex exploration of the psyche, relieves pain and suffering, and encourages psychological growth.

In her eloquent introduction, architect Elizabeth Danze writes, “I consider the role of the room neither tacit nor passive...but rather active in the creative work of analysis....No other type of architectural space performs in quite the same way. Awesome book of portraits of shrinks!

This is an awesome book of portraits of shrinks. It is a photography book first but also includes texts and interviews and gives an insight into the spaces of therapists (mainly) in NYC. Some famous some less known. It is very nicely put together and a well designed as an object! I would recommend this to a fellow therapist or anyone interested in photographic portraits.

Dr. Zimmerman has compiled a book, both intimate and inspiring, that beautifully illustrates the work of those professionals most often in the background. Though they share a commitment to healing others, his subjects are highly varied in experience, orientation and style. The conceit of photographing subjects in their work space with the accompanying essays, provides the reader with a sense of privilege, a chance to "peek" into the mind of an analyst. Anyone who has been in analysis will understand the voyeuristic pleasure in this. Bravo!

It gets you energized but indeed a lot of duplicate content and on a few subject not very thorough

I enjoyed reading this book. It's get's you thinking and it helps you form an idea in your head what kind of jobs you can outsource whether in-house of with a virtual assistant. But definitely not doing yourself. However the subject of how to hire a good VA is lightly touched. It's definitely clear the author much rather have you use his company for that. However if you sell a book it should not be an infomercial. You have whitepapers for that and "free" ebooks. Also not everything is consistent. At one point the author says don't always give money to your VA or he/she gets used to that and further down he says always give cash, cash is king. There is also a lot of repetition in this book especially in the middle and the end. The author promises it's all meat no fluff. Unfortunately that is not the case. Another thing to be aware off this book is so positive about Virtual staff it's almost a fairy tale. Just hire the correct VA - use for that of course the author's hiring company - pay your VA on time and all is good in the world. If you do it on your own prepare yourself for trouble but if done correctly the skies are blue. However reading comments from actual companies that hire VA's there are a lot of issues with virtual staff. But in the book there is not much space for that. Also taxes in untouched. It would at least been nice to give a clear overview of general tax consequences for main markets. The EU has one tax law, the US is another big market or Australia. Do those tax authorities see overseas VA's as staff, can you file them as costs in your books. Basic questions but not answered in this book.

This book is THE authoritative guide to finding and managing a virtual staff. If you have never done it before Chris Ducker will walk you through step by step - it is easier than you think! If you are like I was for so long and putting off the idea of building a virtual team let this be your wake up call.

What makes this book extra special is not only is it a good guide for someone starting out, but even for those who have been managing some or all of their team online Virtual Freedom will show you how to take that to the next level. There were several tips I picked up even after several months of working with a virtual assistant.

The format of this book is super simple to read with bullet points and headings. And examples! Every section has an example of someone putting the strategies into practice.

Even without a virtual team on a full time or regular basis this book will help you hire and manage for one off projects, and even improve your own productivity.

The biggest surprise in the book was the final section about content creation. Not too concerned about giving yourself more free time? Then you should still hire a virtual staff so that you can have more time to create content and continue to grow. Your impact and meaning as a business should never be limited by what you alone can do.

Bottom line? Go buy this book! It will change your life.

I'm Getting So Much More Done!

In full disclosure, Chris and I are extremely good friends. Best friends in fact. But, he also knows that I'm always completely honest with him about what he's doing, and he's always been the same with me. Friendship aside, this review completely reflects the information in this book, which is spot on. I've suffered from Superhero Syndrome for the longest time, and after meeting Chris a few years back and being introduced to virtual staff, it has completely changed how I've been able to get things done. I'm getting more done, in less time, and although my team has allowed me to spend more time doing the bigger thinking in my business, which is what all entrepreneurs should be doing (not the repetitive day-to-day stuff that can be handed off, which is what I was doing myself), but I've been able to spend more time with my kids at home while also watching my business grow. I've been able to focus on only what I need to focus on, and having my business work for me, instead of me working for my business.

I've read the book and everything I learned from Chris these past few years is in here, plus a lot more. I highly recommend it. Thanks Chris for being a great friend, but for also helping others see the power in letting go of certain parts of your business - something, like I said, I struggled with for the longest time.

Although the attention to period detail, tone of dialogue and spirited aspects of tackling a beloved classic were evident and should be applauded. I'm afraid to say, there may be a reason why Nelly Dean never had her own story. This sensitive psychological homage just wasn't that absorbing and to be completely honest, I couldn't wait to shut the cover on Nelly Dean. To be fair, I thought this between the pages narrative, creative and I see exactly what this novel was trying to achieve- answering lingering questions with imaginative flourishes and branching off of the mystery and allure of Wuthering Heights but something was amiss in this book and by the end I just had enough.

The various twists of misery, unexpected disclosures and windblown relationship trials although interesting at first became tangled with tedious unnecessary details that had me asking out loud several times "why is this important, what does this have to do with or add to the story?" particularly the sudden vast magical elements, extended wet nursing tangents and a very long chapter on collecting payment from tenants. There was also the portion of when this narrative stepped outside of a fictional setting and into a classroom situation breaking apart the symbolism of a falcon still all in the voice of Nelly Dean but still a very disappointing part for this reader. It may be only me but I want to decipher the hidden messages and symbols, please don't tell me; that is half of the beauty and dark mystique of Wuthering Heights.

Finally the characters, sadly they were only there in name and many times I wanted to push Nelly Dean aside to revisit those other characters that only walked off into the shadows. This was ultimately the psychological tale of Nelly Dean and Hindley Earnshaw but by the final page I had the oddest feeling that this story could have been called by another title, the names of the characters changed and if the name of the infamous ancestral great house omitted- I honestly wouldn't have known it was an accompaniment to Wuthering Heights. I may have recognized bits and pieces to compare and the tale had its moments that kept me reading but as I said in the beginning, something was amiss. I hate to sound harsh and I know my opinion or final thoughts differ from others who have loved this between the scenes narrative and as I said the period details and tone of dialogue were impressive and as a standalone story, it had the bones of something great but I'm very sorry to say this just didn't end as a keeper for this reader.

Over the years, there have been many re-imaginings, sequels or prequels, based on classic novels and some are more successful than others. I loved “Longbourn,” by Jo Baker, which looked at “Pride and Prejudice” from the point of view of a servant in the Bennet’s house and, likewise, this novel takes “Wuthering Heights” and re-tells the story from the pen of Nelly Dean. The book begins with Nelly Dean opening a letter to Mr Lockwood, in which she gradually uncovers the history of her life and of the inhabitants of the house and family that she was linked to from childhood.

“Wuthering Heights” is a favourite novel of mine and the author is careful to retain the feelings and characters as they were written by Emily Bronte. However, allowing her to take the perspective of a minor character gives her a good vantage point to tell the story from a different point of view. We hear of everything from Nelly’s viewpoint and, as her story unfolds, we are gradually introduced to the characters. Nelly’s mother was a nurse to Hindley and she was brought up almost as a sibling to Hindley and Cathy until the arrival of Heathcliff. Her change of status to that of a servant is something that we understand, but she struggles with. In fact, although Nelly is the main character here, there remains the undercurrents of emotional turmoil that readers will associate with “Wuthering Heights.”

I really enjoyed this novel, which retains much of the flavour of the original, but adds a new insight into the story and characters. A great debut novel, by an author who has previously written a non-fiction book; “Reading the Nineteenth Century Novel: Austen to Eliot” which encompassed the Bronte sisters. She has used her research well to re-imagine a literary world beloved by many. However, if you have not read, “Wuthering Heights” before, then this novel will make perfect sense and may even inspire you to read the original.

Fantastic book on safe money strategies

Easy to read and understand, the graphs and text explain this particular wealth management strategy very well. When I finished I called the author Mr. Phillips and his team answered all my questions. Would recommend this book to anyone looking for ideas on wealth creation and management. I don't normally read books on finance, but this one was refereed to me by a friend who attended a MoneyShow in Las Vegas.

I'm sold on the Family Bank Strategy!

Reading the Family Bank Strategy opened my eyes to positive changes in the insurance industry since the days of "buy term and invest the difference". I was looking for a way to preserve my investment capital in a way that was not tied directly to the stock market, but that still had growth potential, but much less downside. After reading David Phillips book, I found that burying an indexed universal life insurance policy, even at my age, would not only meet my investment objectives, but would also provide a way for me to withdraw money, tax free, to use as supplemental retirement income, or to make low cost loans to my kids and grand kids. It also provides me with peace of mind in case I don't live as long as I would hope, since my wife will be taken care of with the proceeds of the death benefit. David's book is easy to read and understand. I talked to him several times on the phone and always found him willing to answer my questions and address my concerns. I also liked the fact that his book was recommended by the Retirement Watch Newsletter, which I subscribe to.

A fascinating book! Well-written and easy to read. Once what Dave is saying really sinks in, though, you'll want to read it again (I did). I'm 74 years old and about four years into retirement. I found Dave's strategies useful for buying insurance as a combination family wealth management tool and a estate planning vehicle... I had special needs which his book addressed. I was skeptical at first that I could qualify for insurance at my age, but when I did, it began a fruitful path for achieving my wealth management/estate planning objectives. If your circumstances are similar to mine, this book will likely be very beneficial for you...

Other books might be better

Updated review: Friedman's book is much better, and cleared up a lot of questions I still had after spending a couple of evenings with White's.
The manual that comes with the camera is awful. I can't understand how anyone new to the DSC-RX camera family could use their camera fully without a 3rd party guide. Sony should be ashamed for not making more information available on line (its OK that its not cost effective to supply a printed manual). This book attempts to cover everything, and then some (appendices about 3rd party cases, batteries, memory cards etc), but the presentation is a bit muddled. If you buy the kindle version, its very cost effective. Can't see many shelling out for the printed version.

Great rx for the RX!

This is a COMPLETE guide (did I already say complete?) to everything there is to know about the camera. I bought it shortly after I got my RX100 III. Everything is explained in an orderly manner and all aspects of the camera are discussed-settings, menus, uses, and so forth accompanied by numerous example photos. Assuming you bought the camera already you will not go wrong with the book. These are not Cliff Notes, but the real deal, in great detail. I read the Owner's Manual twice before I decided to buy this book. Even SONY's Help Guide on line was not especially useful to me. I found it fragmented and jumped from section to section driving me nuts. But here is all the information you will ever need about the RXIII in one place and straight up. You will be amazed how much this camera can do, and what you can do to improve your shooting. No doubt an experienced pro could probably figure out all of this and find what he/she needed in the camera. But some of us, probably most of us, need the level of guidance offered here. I read digital formats mostly, so this Kindle edition is a plus too.

I am so glad I purchased this book

I already had a A6000 book from another author, so when I purchased RX100M3, I was wondering if I needed a book for RX100M3. I am so glad I purchased this book! There is enough difference between the two cameras, and the author does a very nice job explaining each feature that you would not be able to easily figure out just by reading the manual or experiementing. The Kindle price is really a steal.

Natalie Wood (1938-81) came from the last generation of movie stars shaped by the Hollywood studio system, and Suzanne Finstad gives her life the all-out showbiz celebrity bio treatment in this compulsively readable book. As Finstad sees it, Wood was tortured by the conflict between her real self, born Natasha Zakharenko to Russian immigrants, and the glamorous "Natalie Wood" persona created by her ambitious mother. Wood admired rebellious actors like James Dean, her co-star in Rebel Without a Cause, but she wanted the mink coats, sexy cars, and huge salaries Warner Brothers doled out for appearances in forgettable pictures like Sex and the Single Girl. Working in films from age 6, she learned early that the way to get ahead was to please the grownups, a lesson she never really unlearned, even in her wild teens. She ditched a fiancé‚ deemed unsuitable by the studio, to marry suave rising star Robert Wagner, despite warnings from friends that he was bisexual; their first marriage ended when she found him "in a compromising position with another man," but they reunited in 1972 to become Hollywood's golden couple once more. But her attraction to more challenging artists remained; her friendship with Brainstorm co-star Christopher Walken sparked the drunken quarrel that in Finstad's account led to Wood's drowning off Wagner's boat. Fans of celebrity biographies will be interested in the life story of Wood, who was born in San Francisco in 1938 to Russian immigrants, the second of three daughters. Her name was Natasha Zakharenko, later Gurdin. Positive that her dark-eyed daughter was destined for fame, Maria Gurdin got Natasha her first screen role at age six, controlling her life and career and providing dire warnings about men and other perils. She did not dispel Natalie's terrible fear of "dark water," which Finstad repeats many times throughout the tale, leading up to the actress's tragic drowning in 1981 at age 43. Wood's screen successes include Miracle on 34th Street, Rebel Without a Cause, West Side Story, and The Searchers. She had male companions Raymond Burr, Dennis Hopper, and Frank Sinatra but the great love of her life was actor Robert Wagner, whom she married, divorced, and remarried. The mysterious circumstances of her death are reviewed in detail; Finstad conducted hundreds of interviews with friends, attorneys, the coroner, and other officials. Very interesting but sad bio!

Very good bio of Natalie Wood. After recently reading Lana Wood's book about her famous older sister, I was curious to know more about the lovely film star. This book gives a detailed description of Natalie's childhood with her strange, overbearing stage mother and her inadequate, alcoholic father. It is quite obvious Natalie was denied a proper childhood since she was pushed into acting by her overbearing mother at a very young age. Natalie or (Natasha, her birth name), was a very bright and adorable child who quickly absorbed the lessons of being a movie star. However, the problem was that she was unable to shed the Natalie Wood persona and suffered in her adult life the constraints of not being her real self. The book goes in a lot of detail about her relationships and marriages. She married Robert Wagner twice, the first marriage ended due to Natalie catching Robert in a very compromising position with another man. Her second marriage to Richard Gregson also ended when she discovered he was having an affair with another woman. Natalie then remarries Robert Wagner and seemingly has a happy third marriage until her sudden death. But there is much mystery and speculation about the real nature of Natalie's death and this book does throw some light upon the sad circumstances surrounding the tragic event. After finishing the book I still have some questions and feel the real story has not yet been revealed. I was also surprised to learn Natalie had been raped by an unnamed very successful movie actor when she was just sixteen. The identity of this nameless person may come out in time and I hope to know the truth about this too. Overall, a book well worth reading if you are a Natalie Wood fan.

A truly intimate look at an extraordinary life

This book is everything you could want in a biography, and Natalie Wood is everything you could want in a life to read about. This book contains a lot of detail, but it stays interesting, and it never bogs down. Ultimately, it is a tragedy, and you know that going in. But, even before her tragic death by drowning, which Ms. Finstad reveals was a lifelong fear of Natalie's, Natalie Wood endured so much pain and strife and abuse in her life (including being raped by a major Hollywood star), it seemed like something out of Dostoevsky.

But, where did her talent come from? Ms. Finstand reveals that Natalie Wood was a genius. She was playing Chopin by heart at age 8. She soared academically- whether at studio school or public school. She took up acting, but she would have excelled at anything she put her mind to.

I never realized how Russian she was. Did you know that she spoke Russian? I never realized how small she was. She was only 5 feet tall and 95 pounds (until her latter years). And I never realized how much her life resembled Marilyn Monroe's with the alcohol and prescription drug abuse, particularly sleeping pills. Her life with her obsessed and driven Hollywood mother Maria- ironically, the same name as one of her most beloved roles- is highlighted throughout the book. And, her own experience as a mother, which is less known to the public, was like her swan song.

Regarding her death, Ms. Finstad chronicles that horrific, doomed night minute by minute. Ms. Finstad doesn't solve the mystery of Natalie's death, but she does provide exhaustive detail for you to form your own opinion.

You come away realizing that this was a one-in-a-million life- no wait, make that a one-in-a--hundred-million-life. I like biographies, and I liked every bit of this one. .

Suzanne Ginstad in Natasha: The Biography of Natalie Wood presents a well-researched account of the life of a celebrity whose time on earth was cut short by drowning. Although we'll never know exactly what happened the night of Natalie's tragic death, in this book we get a clear picture of an actress who was tormented by her own celebrity. One of the few actresses who made the transition from child star to adult roles, Wood was torn between her desire to be a great mother and wife and her need to show her true artistry in parts that spoke to her heart. Because of her death at a time when she was preparing to play Anastasia on stage, a role Ingrid Bergman played in the film of the same name, and which because of her Russian background Natalie Wood felt a great affinity for, we will always wonder what Natale might have accomplished if her career had not been cut short. We will always remember her as Maria in West Side Story, the ingenue in Rebel Without a Cause, Splendor in the Grass, This Property is Condemned, and as the girl with the beautiful, sorrowful eyes. Anyone who loves the glamour of old Hollywood should read this book--an honest biography of a talented actress who might have climbed greater heights in her profession had fate not intervened.

About the Author
Eoin Young is a New Zealander who left his job to join Bruce McLaren and help set up his racing team. He arrived in the UK in 1961 as a freelance journalist, covered the Formula Junior season with Denny Hulme. He joined McLaren in 1962, as founding director of the team. Established Motormedia in 1976, wrote a weekly diary in \u201cAutocar\u0022 from 1967 until 1998, and also covered the CanAm, Indianapolis 500 and Formula 1 racing series. In 1979 he became a dealer in rare motoring and motor racing books and ephemera. Eoin has written 2 autobiographical books: It Beats Working (1996) and It Still Beats Working (2003). He writes regular columns for Cars for the Connoisseur, Pitpass.com and others. After more than three decades based in the UK he has now returned to his native New Zealand.

Wonderful Biography on an Honorable Man

I'm sure there's many racing books out there that focus on a driver or a team, and then talk about over and over the specifics of those races, and mostly unopinionated reporting of some incredible times, races, and people. However, McLaren Memories is a biography that is very personal, intimate, and damn good. Yes, this book tells of all of those races, the small intricacies of them, who won, pole positions, qualifying lap times and various other fascinating and plain-awesome factoids. Yet, Eoin Young is also able to give a wonderful and phenomenal perspective on Bruce's life, with laughs, foils, victories, and at times, cries. There are some fantastic memories in here about the man and the racing, like the Lotus and McLaren teams throwing baskets of bread at each other at their hotel during dinner after the Gran Prix's of Italy in Monza, and how Jim Clark stole Dan Gurney's steering wheel 20 minutes before a race! Young also pulls from various sources, including other reporters, journalists, race car drivers, and others in the industry. It was a pleasant surprise to find a total of about 20 high quality gloss pages of photos as well. If you want the best book about Bruce McLaren, Formula 1 racing of the '60s, or about car racing before it got bogged down by myriad safety regulations, commercializing, and generally good chaps, get this book.

A Kiwi Icon in Motor Racing

This book provided an excellent background to Bruce McLaren's early life and motor racing successes. His focus and commitment to his passion comes through very clearly. There were a number of disappointments along the way but Bruce and his team set the bar very high for motor racing teams of that era. As well as technical brilliance there was also a fair amount of kiwi ingenuity and #8 wire used.

This is a great text for pharmacology and physiology concerning anesthesia practice. This book reads easily with the required depth and logically flows from subject to subject. It is well written and packed with information for commonly used drugs in anesthesia. Recommend for anyone studying the field including CRNAs, SRNAs, anesthesiology residents, fellows, and attendings.
