About the Author
Thomas Müller-Marqués Berger (Stuttgart, Germany) is a partner at Ernst & Young GmbH and currently serves as the firm's Global Leader of International Public Sector Accounting.
Thomas has been a member of the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (IPSASB) since January 2009, with his term recently being renewed until the end of 2014. Before joining the IPSASB, he was a member of the IFAC Public Sector Steering Committee on Social Policy Obligations, a subgroup of the IPSASB, during 2003 and 2004.
He has also been a member of the FEE Public Sector Committee (European Federation of Chartered Accountants) since 2003, and was appointed Chair in January 2012. At a national level, he has been a member of the German Public Sector Committee at the German Institute of Chartered Accountants (Institut der Wirtschaftsprüfer in Deutschland (IDW)) for almost 10 years.

Depending of your current level of knowledge it might be recommended...

It is a little less meaty than I would have liked - mind you it is called a SUMMARY.
I think it might be better for someone who is not familiar with IPSAS (or indeed accruals accounting). If you need to learn these things it is likely your employer (my employer has produced lots of information) or accounting body (e.g. CIPFA) would have something more appropriate or just go straight to the standard setting bodies.

However if you are looking for a fairly easy read or are completely new to IPSAS (even a non-accountant) it is recommended - perhaps not at full price though.

First published in 1942 for distribution to American soldiers in WWII, this volume makes a fascinating bit of social history, but a reprint of dubious worth. An acronym for The Celebrated Man In The Street, T.C. Mits is very much a product of his time, an early experiment in the personalized style of mass communication which has become the norm. Like many Americans who fought in the war, everyman Mits has a limited education and little knowledge of the world beyond his home; this book offers him a series of short lessons in mathematical logic and its social utility: "The value of Science and Mathematics is not limited to the gadgets which they give us, but is also in their philosophy." In each lesson, a mathematical example or proof is described, whimsically illustrated (occasionally in proper mathematical graphs), and then extended to non-mathematical matters; e.g., an amusing jaunt through Einsteinian relativity results in this "Moral": "Adapt yourself to a continually CHANGING world." The light-hearted lessons and corny line drawings are charming, to be sure, but numerous "Why We Fight" asides railing against Hitler and totalitarianism make it more than a little dated, and its condescending tone can grate; as described by Barry Mazer in the foreword, it's "funny" and "a bit exasperating," like "a loving, elderly aunt and uncle."

About the Author
Lillian R. Lieber was Professor and Head of the Department of Mathematics at Long Island University. She wrote a series of light-hearted (and well-respected) math books, many of them illustrated by her husband. Hugh Gray Lieber was Professor and Head of the Department of Fine Arts at Long Island University. Barry Mazur does his mathematics at Harvard University and lives in Cambridge, Massachussetts, with the writer Grace Dane Mazur. A facinating book about Math and Science!

I love this book! I own a copy of this book from the original copyright date. It was my dad's (a mathematician) and he suggested I read it. The book was a dull yellow color with just the title on the spine. At first I had no interest. At some point, in high school, I picked it up and read it. It's a quick read, even for a slow reader. It teaches you to not make assumptions and follow up on your work. It also makes thoughtful connections between math, science, and philosophy in a humorous and light-hearted way. I recommend this book to all teachers (and students) of math and science.

Mits: What Modern Mathematics Means to You is a unique, plain-terms introduction to the amazing world of mathematics, written for readers of all backgrounds. In higher mathematics, sometimes the most fundamental of precepts can be challenged: two times two is not always four; the sum of the angles in a triangle does not always equal 180 degrees, and two parallel lines can be drawn through the same point! The free-verse poetry format does not interfere with the straightforward message, sample problems, and mathematical explanations in the least. Simple black-and-white line drawings illustrate this amazing exploration of mathematical mysteries for "T. C. Mits", or "The Common Man in the Street". A joy to read, especially recommended for public library collections to stimulate human interest in math and science. Highly recommended. which is exactly the way I like my books

Have not read the book yet. I finished LONESOME DOVE last night. I mean after all it is a book not far off a thousand pages, which is exactly the way I like my books. As to COMANCHE MOON I don't like the book's format. It seems to be made on a pocket-book format, instead of a full size book. It leaves you reading in the crack of the book. I don't buy pocket books or paper-back books. Only full-size hardbacks. I like the leather bound too. The thing is COMANCHE MOON is probably long time out of print & I am very fortunate to get it in whatever format. Sincerely, thank you very much, Amazon.

The Frontier Is Life And The Search Is For Wisdom

While the prequel to the dynamic Lonesome Dove packs a powerful punch - a blur between good & evil, sadistic killers, bumbling politicians and rumbling battles - it is the oftentimes subtle interplay of characters through dialogue that makes the novel a classic.

Though August McCrae and Woodrow F. Call drive the 803 pages, author Larry McMurtry's delving into the endless/futile quest for love, the "taming" of a vast landscape with irreversible ramifications and noble quests destroyed through ignorance & greed brings special realism to this novel on the Real West.

And in the end, the themes are ultimately timeless, which makes the journey the reader takes so special on many levels.

About the Author
Born in Vienna in 1909, Peter F. Drucker was educated in Austria and England. From 1929 he was a newspaper correspondent abroad and an economist for an international bank in London. Since 1937 he has been in the United States, first as an economist for a group of British banks and insurance companies, and later as a management consultant to several of the country's largest companies, as well as leading companies abroad. Drucker has since had a distinguished career as a teacher, first as Professor of Politics and Philosophy at Bennington College, then for more than twenty years as Professor of Management at the Graduate Business School of New York University. Since 1971 he has been Clarke Professor of Social Science at Claremont Graduate School in California. In addition to his management books, Peter Drucker is also renowned for his prophetic books analysing politics, economics and society. The best 800 protocol ever..saved my life this book!

I have been following the protocol from this book and have now lost 80lbs by following it to a T. Something I never thought possible in my life. I am an emotional eater, and chose poor choices at the grocery store. In fact 6-7 times a week it was fast food. After getting on this protocol, and seeing results leave my body rapidly but safely, I realized just how effective it was to eat clean, and still enjoy life. I was never deprived, never sick, and full of energy. I even slept great for the first time in years. I am so close to goal now because I followed this book, and have always stabilized between rounds. This book has everything you need to maximize your weightloss safely. They have good recipes in there for us, a grocery list, suppliments list, sample menus and even places to go for actual support. I know that I was on a road to destruction in my life. This books saved me from my destructive self. This is a tool for life, and I will never have an excuse again to yo yo up and down or ever worry about myself getting into an unhealthy BMI. My doctor is absolutely amazed at what I have done, thank you Sonia E. Russell for providing such an amazing tool to get people healthy. This clinically studied diet, has helped alot of people. I have seen the journey's and transformations, and they are just jaw dropping!

Meh...It Has a Few Good Ideas However I'm Disappointed

I wish I could give this book 5-stars and say it is the most definitive HCG book ever. But I can't.
I've done the HCG diet before and I find it a difficult and excellent way to lose fat while preserving one's muscle mass. My beef with the 500 calorie HCG diet is I think for many people too little protein is ingested to protect their lean muscle mass.

The good things about this book are:
1. You can eat more than 500 calories on HCG.
2. A discussion on green vegetables and water vegetables and what to consume.
3, Clearer guidance on the phases and what foods to eat.
4. A nice list of recipes and what phases to consume these recipes on.
5. Advising people to take anti-candida medicine to reduce candida while doing the HCG diet.

The book "Pounds and Inches" is free allover the net and it is flawed but also adequate to help a person succeed on HCG. A better HCG diet book is needed and this book addresses some holes however it falls short. My advice for HCG dieters is as follows:
*Don't eat the cracker it will slow your weight loss down.
*If you go over 500 calories, eat more protein. Me, I buy egg white protein and make shakes. Hard boiled eggs are good to. Eat the whites and throw away the yolks except perhaps a 1/2 a yolk a day.
*Go with apples or strawberries. Some people do oranges and grapefruit. Blueberries were a stall creator for me. Don't get fancy here with fruit.
*Do the 50 day maintenance phase keeping you body weight stable or....DON'T bother doing this diet. Do this and you'll keep the weight off. Ignore or short-change this phase and you'll undo all your hard work.
*Do a food/energy/emotions/poop journal. This will help you see the relationship between between how food makes you feel. Do this right and it will open your eyes. Emotions are often the root cause behind weight. Understand the emotions that cause binge eating and then find better ways to deal with those emotions. Chocolate cake will make your mouth feel good for about 5min but feeling poorly the next several hours.

It is an OK book. Perhaps I'll warm up to it if I like the recipes. If so I'll update my review if this happens.

After having 3 children, I, like many others, found myself well over 200 lbs. I started the hcg diet and only had Dr. Simeons original manuscript to follow. Finding this protocol has completely changed my perceptions on food. Not only did I lose more with the 800 than the 500 protocol, but it helped me to not lose hair (like I did on the 500) and stick with the protocol long enough to reach goal weight. Not only was I able to lose the weight, but I have kept it off because of Sonia's focus on real foods and no artificial "replacements" for my poor food habits. Not only have my eating habits changed, but so have the eating habits of my whole family. I am happy to say that I've kept the weight off for nearly a year and my children also focus on if something they are eating is "healthy" or not. :-)

A great book

Mr. Simburger has written an outstanding book. I do want to correct a couple of points in the main review. the book does not cover all of Southern California rail. In particular, it has relatively little information about the Coaster [Oceanside- San Diego] or the San Diego Trolley. It also does not talk much about intercity Amtrak in the Inland Empire and the Mojave Desert. The bus maps are a little hard to read, and Mr. Simburger could use an editor to correct some typos but this is an outstanding well researched reference. I never travel anywhere on the Metrolink without reading up the relevant chapters in this book first.

Thinking Man's Collection of Jokes

I found this book when I was on a business trip and needed some entertainment in the evening. Most of the jokes and anecdotes lead to a good chuckle and some are hilarious. What appeals to me most about this book is the commentary that Asimov supplies in the way of background to each piece of humor.

The ONLY humor compilation I've ever seen in which I laughed at almost all of the jokes. Asimov's commentaries are equally entertaining. Much better than the sequel, "Asimov Laughs Again."
